Claudia’s Story

Since 1978, Camphill has been providing managed shelter and support to adults with intellectual disabilities in order for them to experience a better quality of life, together with meaningful work. Every person, however complex their individual needs may be, is valued as a unique being, who takes responsibility for his or her own life. Camphill, besides offering residential care, is also a Community Farm, providing basic foodstuffs for the Community, including a variety of milk products, vegetables, herbs, eggs and meat when available.

Claudia, one of our long term residents, has spina bifida and urgently requires a new wheelchair which can accommodate her disability.

Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly. It falls under the broader category of neural tube defects. The neural tube is the embryonic structure that eventually develops into the baby’s brain and spinal cord and the tissues that enclose them.

Camphill provides various workshops to the residents. The primary purpose of the workshops is to provide meaningful employment for the residents at Camphill and it is important to note that these garden workshops become part of the resident’s identity.

Claudia is a fundi in the Poultry Garden Workshop. Besides being a brilliant gardener she is a master pesto maker and provides delicious pesto to the Community.

Presently Claudia needs a new wheelchair with solid tyres / wheels to accommodate her in the garden. Her current chair is old and outdated. Her chair does not sufficiently support her posture and the wheels are not suitable for a gardening environment based on a farm. At times she  leaves her wheelchair outside the gate (entrance to the Poultry Garden) as the pathway is currently too uneven to accommodate her current wheelchair especially on wet and rainy days. This is not an ideal situation as it becomes quite traumatic and stressful for her when she is moved about without her wheelchair.

Claudia cannot express the urgency of her need and we would appreciate it if you can assist her in making her daily rhythm here at Camphill Farm Community Hermanus more comfortable.

Make a plan for Stan!

We from the Carlstrong Foundation would like to raise funds for Stan Kondowe.

Stan is from Malawi – a Master Diver with years of experience, now living in South Africa, along with his wife and 3 daughters.

Stan was diagnosed with Glaucoma last year in his right eye. He has lost almost 50% of his vision in the eye – recently, he was diagnosed with severe Glaucoma in his left eye too – and is in need of surgery to relieve the pressure and to save his eye sight.

His operation has been booked for the 27 August 2019. Although Stan will not need to pay for his surgery – he will need financial support for his medication and extensive follow up appointments in the future. He will also not have any income for a relatively long time period after his operation – as he would need to recover.

Stan, currently works a gardener in Cape Town and unfortunately does not have the luxury of taking time off work – as his family rely on him to provide. Stan does not have “paid sick leave”. A day of work missed, is a day without pay, a day less providing and possibly a day his family goes without food.

Let’s make a plan for Stan! Let’s raise some money for him and his family to make his journey just a little more comfortable

Those who made a plan for Stan 🙂

The majority of cancer patients out there either don’t get to their treatments or get there in a compromised and undignified manner. By the provision of a personalized ‘lift club’ travelling daily into the townships and areas where these people are, we hope that we can get more people to treatment and we can eliminate one of the major headaches these folk have – access to transport and mobility.

Carlstrong Foundation

Don’t let the darkness steal your light.

Carlstrong Foundation Overview

The Carlstrong Foundation aims at supporting individuals who are dealing with grief, loss and other emotional consequences, such as depression, as a result of violent crime. With the vision of providing, among various other support structures, financial support to individuals who are unable to afford the necessary professional help required.

Carlstrong Foundation

R43,320 of R50,000 raised

Our first project is aimed at raising funds to support and finance an individual that has been affected by a violent crime. The sole purpose is to walk the journey alongside the individual to reach the ultimate goal of a full emotional recovery.

Furthermore, this project will enable us to build a more substantial model for all future beneficiaries, allowing us to finance and support as many individuals as possible.
The support program includes:
– Covering/Contributing towards consultation fees of medical
professionals such as psychiatrists & psychologists.
– Covering/Contributing towards the relevant prescribed
medication if necessary (prescribed by relevant medical professionals).
– Reintegrating the individual into a social lifestyle.
– Generating lifestyle/fitness goals that the individual can work towards.

INFINITI ONLINE LAUNCHES MASSIVE EDUCATIONAL FUND-RAISING VENTURE – SIMPLETOGIVE

Launched today, SimpletoGive (StG) is an innovative crowd-funding platform powered by Infiniti Online, targeting R100m for education .

“Its nationwide implementation is aimed at raising funds for education. Schools and NPO’s in the education sector can register on the website which guides them through setting up a fundraising campaign” – states Chad Roberts, Founder of SimpletoGive.

StG, enables an organisation to access contributions in concentrated space of time without being distracted from core duties.  The project is in part driven by ‘Ambassadors’ and ‘Champions’ willing to offer their support. All aspects of the fund-raising campaign have been considered by the StG team including publicity, marketing, and fundraising strategies as well as security and integrity.

Chad says, “after working with schools and NPO’s for an extended period, it is incredibly exciting to partner with Infiniti Insurance on this project that has the ability to impact education on a national level.”

Infiniti CEO Sharon Paterson says her company has aligned itself to the project based on a shared vision of contributing to education as a pillar of South African society.  “Infiniti has from its inception adopted the philosophy of establishing strong alliances to foster sustainability and long-term growth.  The support provided to StG is a current and relevant contribution to our society as a whole and one which helps address educational support as one of today’s most pressing needs.

The importance of education coupled with our economic climate calls for inventive solutions.  SimpletoGive is exactly what the name implies. Its technological platform is a dynamic enabler for fund-raising activities.

“We’re inviting all educational organisations to join the campaign by registering on www.simpletogive.org.za” says Chad
